Waste Sorting at Hesburger

At Hesburger, we sort and recycle the waste generated in our restaurants as efficiently as possible. Our customers also play an important role, because only by working together can we ensure that materials are sorted correctly and reused as efficiently as possible.

Sorting is also part of the customer experience

Waste sorting has been an important part of our restaurant kitchens for many years. Now, we want to make sorting even easier for our customers.

The new waste sorting stations in our customer areas are designed to be easy to use. Clear images, colours and concrete examples help customers find the right place for each type of waste. Waste sorting stations are already available at dozens of our restaurants across Finland, and their number is growing as we open new restaurants and renovate existing ones.

How to sort waste at Hesburger

1. Liquids
Pour drinks and melted ice into the container designated for liquids.

2. Cardboard
Sort items such as cups, lids, straws, boxes and burger sleeves as cardboard.

3. Biowaste
Biowaste includes items such as burger wrappers, French fry bags, napkins, tray liners, ketchup cups and food waste.

4. Mixed waste
Mixed waste includes items such as cutlery, seasoning and tea bags, plastic packaging, mayonnaise sachets, dip cups and receipts.

5. Trays
Once you have sorted your waste, place the empty tray in the designated place on top of the sorting station.

Hesburger restaurants sort several different types of waste, including biowaste, cardboard, plastic packaging, clear plastic film, metal, glass and used frying oil. Discarded workwear, broken trays and transport boxes can also be collected for further processing and reuse.

We work with experts in the circular economy and waste management to ensure that materials can be reused as efficiently as possible. We also monitor the development of recycling in real time using the reporting tools available at our restaurants.
