Carbon Footprint and Reforestation

Hesburger cares about our shared planet. First and foremost, Hesburger wants to minimize the carbon footprint of its operations. We operate as energy efficiently as possible, generate renewable energy in-house, plan logistics wisely, recycle materials, and actively develop environmentally friendly packaging and practices.

We also offset emissions caused by our operations. We have achieved concrete results. In Ethiopia, we have planted over 167,300 trees, and in Uganda, we have saved about 495,000 trees from being cut down (figures from 10/2016–12/2024).

In Finland, we are working with Carboreal Oy to plant new biodiverse forests on land that is unsuitable for cultivation. Forests sequester carbon effectively and for the long-term, both in trees and in soil. Hesburger has carried out climate actions in Reisjärvi (Northern Ostrobothnia) and Rautalampi (Northern Savonia). In 2025, over 10,000 saplings have been planted in Rautalampi while in 2023, more than 15,000 saplings were planted in Reisjärvi.

“Keep the carbon footprint of everything you do as small as possible!”
