World-Class Plant Protein Pattie

With the rise of plant-based diets, various veggie patties resembling meat have become popular both in Finland and around the world. In response to international innovations, Hesburger’s product development kitchen developed a delicious plant protein patty of its own. This product was launched in January 2020 as a filling for the VEKE® Cheese Veggie Burger.

A Masterpiece from Kaarina

Hesburger’s plant protein patty resembling a meat patty is the undisputed masterpiece of our product development. Our taste buds were the key tools in this, as always, when it comes to product development. Indeed, the best flavour and consistency for the new plant protein patty was discovered simply by tasting it.

The plant protein factory in Kaarina, completed in autumn 2019, has been a significant investment for Hesburger. Having this in-house factory allows us to make the types of plant protein products that match our customers’ preferences perfectly. Our factory also produces veggie patties and soy fingers for Hesburger products. We believe that the popularity of plant-based products will continue to grow in the future and that having in-house production facilities will be an increasingly important asset to us.

Keeping the Bar High

Hesburger’s objective is to significantly increase its plant-based product sales. We are aiming for 50% of the products sold at Hesburger restaurants in Finland in 2030 to consist of meat-free products. This target applies to the share of meat-free products in all the sold savoury products on our permanent menu, excluding fries. You can follow our progress here.

Hesburger Got a Veggie Version of Its Most Iconic Hamburger

In September 2024, we launched the new VEKE® Double Veggie Burger, a tasty plant-based version of the legendary Double Burger, Hesburger’s most popular product of all time. This is something people have wanted for ages, and Hesburger spent a long time developing it.

The fillings of the VEKE® Double Veggie Burger, including the cucumber or red pepper mayonnaise, are exactly the same as in the Double Burger. Only the beef patties are substituted with plant-based ones when preparing the product. The patties for VEKE® Double Veggie Burgers are made at Hesburger’s factory in Kaarina.
