Joy & Hope – from school to learning centers

In 2005, Hesburger began cooperating with Fida International to support the development of slum communities in Bangladesh. As a result of this collaboration, the Joy & Hope School was established and opened its doors in 2011 in a slum area of Dhaka.

Each year, the school has offered more than 300 children the opportunity to learn, receive a warm meal, and access healthcare. Its impact has reached over 350 families, transforming entire living environments.

Continuing the work where the need is greatest

Over the years, the area surrounding the school has developed, and the poorest slums have shifted further away. In the school’s current location, the need for assistance has decreased, and Joy & Hope activities are gradually moving to areas where help is needed the most.

In this new phase, learning centers will be established in slum communities to support children with schooling and learning. Parents are also invited to participate – receiving training in hygiene, nutrition, literacy, and their own rights. This way, the entire community gains the tools needed to build a better future.

Tuition-based schools support slum development

In 2019, a tuition-based English-language school was founded alongside the Joy & Hope School, and its number of students continues to grow. In the coming years, a Bengali-language tuition-based school will also be launched to make quality education accessible to even more people.

The profits from these schools are used to support slum communities – work carried out by Fida together with Hesburger.

Education belongs to everyone

Together, we can reduce child labor and ensure that education reaches more and more children. Every child who receives an education takes a step toward a more just and hope-filled tomorrow.
