Child labour can be reduced through joint efforts

The law in Bangladesh prohibits the employment of anyone under the age of 14 – and in the case of dangerous work, anyone under the age of 18. However, sanctions and monitoring mechanisms are lacking, and it is not easy to enforce the law without proper birth certificates. Implementation of the laws is also hampered by the fact that only 7% of working children are employed in the official sector, where their ages, working conditions and wages can be monitored at all.

Reducing child labour requires multi-layered action: eliminating structural poverty, enforcing the legislation better, securing parents’ livelihoods, and raising awareness of the importance of education for the children’s future.

We challenge you to take part in changing the lives of these children living in slums.

The funds collected in this campaign will be used in full for Fida’s development cooperation project in the Dhaka slum community of Bangladesh. Hesburger is covering the collection costs.
