A Fair Cup of Coffee
Most Hesburger restaurants in Finland serve Paulig Mundo Original coffee, which carries both Organic and Fairtrade certifications. Paulig Mundo Original is a Fairtrade organic coffee blend, roasted responsibility from organically grown Arabica beans. Its gently roasted flavor has notes of dark sugar and honey.
All Paulig’s green coffee comes from verified responsible sources, meaning it is either purchased through Paulig’s partnership programs or is sustainability certified. In 2023, Paulig launched the Climate Fund to support the implementation of climate actions across its value chain. The fund finances projects in coffee-producing countries, enabling more sustainable and regenerative farming practices.
Paulig’s coffee beans are transported to Finland by sea freight, with some vessels running on biofuel reduce logistics-related emissions. The coffee roastery buildings also use renewable electricity or biogas. In its coffee packaging, Paulig focuses on circular –economy solutions for waste-reducing innovations, and the use of recyclable materials.
Fairtrade
- The Fairtrade label indicates that the production of the raw ingredients complies with international fairtrade criteria and is socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable.
- Fairtrade farmers are paid at least a guaranteed price to cover the costs of production that is sustainable for the environment and people alike.
- In addition to this, a Fairtrade bonus is paid for projects that bring progress to the whole community. This system has therefore been created to improve the international trade position of small farmers and farm workers in developing countries.
- At present, Fairtrade includes some 800,000 coffee farmers, or about 3.5% of all coffee farmers in the world.
Organic Coffee
- Organic coffee is made from organically grown coffee beans.
- The idea is to produce products using production processes that are not harmful to the environment or the well-being of humans, animals, or plants.
- In production, the use of authorized additives and processing aids has been restricted to only what is necessary.
- The production and marketing of organic products in Finland are controlled by the Finnish Food Authority, ELY Centres, Valvira, the municipalities, and Customs.
- For Paulig coffee, the Organic certificate and the Fairtrade certificate always occur together for assurance that both environmental and social responsibility have been taken into account.
